Known as one of the greatest R&B troops of the 1970s, The Spinners defined the sound of Philly soul. Starting as a doo wop group in the late ‘50s, The Spinners spent most of the ‘60s trying to adapt to the shifting fashions of R&B and pop music. Finally, in 1970, they landed a hit with “It’s a Shame.” The follow-up work they did with producer Thom Bell helped them develop their distinctive sound, featuring lead singer Phillipe Wynne’s incredible falsetto and the group’s intricate vocal harmonies. A string of hits followed between 1972 and 1977. Look for The Spinners to perform a host of hits, including “I’ll Be Around,” “Could It Be I’m Falling in Love,” “Mighty Love,” “Ghetto Child,” “Then Came You,” “Games People Play," and “The Rubberband Man.”
