Known for their tight, fiery sound, Average White Band became one of the most influential funk bands of the 1970s. Surprisingly originating in Scotland, Average White Band brought the energy of all the best R&B towns to their sound. Detroit, Memphis and Philadelphia soul come to mind when one listens to AWB. Getting their start as an opening act for Eric Clapton in 1973, the band topped the charts soon after with an instrumental single from their sophomore album. “Pick up the Pieces” became a smash hit. 1975’s Cut the Cake album delivered three more hits, solidifying the band’s position as a force in the ‘70s R&B scene. Come hear the hits, including “Pick up the Pieces,” “Cut the Cake,” “If I Ever Lose This Heaven,” “School Boy Crush” and “Queen of My Soul.”
