WILDER REBOUNDS IN STYLE, WINS MEADOWS FEATURE WITH VICTORY IS COMING
WASHINGTON, PA, Oct. 23, 2012 - In Tuesday's $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Trot at the Meadows, it was hard to tell who was more determined - the winning horse or the winning driver.
Mike Wilder, competing only a day after suffering a sprained wrist and bruised ribs in a five-race mishap at The Meadows, guided Victory Is Coming to a spirited Lightning Lane rally and a ¾-length triumph over Unefoisdansmavie in 1:54.1. The first-over Action-Broadway was third.
Ammon Hershberger trains the 5-year-old Victory Sam-Norse Comer mare, who has been first or second in seven consecutive starts, for Betty Shaw and John Red Shaw.
In all, Wilder completed 14 drives on the 16-race card, garnering a pair of wins, two place finishes and three shows. There also was good news about the other driver hurt in the accident, as Hall of Famer Dave Palone was pronounced free of serious injury and released from a Pittsburgh hospital Tuesday afternoon.
Aaron Merriman drove three winners on Tuesday's program.
